I got the name ‘Vivre’ from the French saying, joie de vivre, joy of life. For me, a joyful life means enjoying every meal. My name is Shanthi Chackalackal, and I’m a seventeen-year-old with a passion for food.
What we eat has always been important to my family, and we are constantly trying out new recipes from around the globe. My dad, Mathew Chackalackal, is an excellent chef and the proud owner of three restaurants (One Twenty Six Restaurants) that defy the American trend of serving pre-made, frozen, processed foods. My mom is also quite the cook, and it was she who taught me to love baking. To my parents, food is art and they have passed that belief down to their children.
We Chackalackals (there are five of us: parents Mathew and Rebecca, me, and my brothers Sasha and Luca) are a hodgepodge of ethnicities: Indian, Mexican, Croatian, Irish…and we love to travel, all of which gives us a unique perspective on food. Through this blog, I hope to document our experiences of the meals we enjoy around the globe and to share the favorite recipes in our household. Most of all, I hope I add a little joie de vivre to your life!
